78 Module 10: Revising

Step 1 – Discussion 10A: Peer Feedback

After you submit the initial draft of your essay through the Assignments tool, post a copy of it in the Discussion 10A forum.

You will then provide feedback to two classmates. Ideally you will respond to the person who posted before you and after you (although if you are the first or last to post you will have to pick others).

At this point, do not address spelling, punctuation, or grammar. Remember these are initial drafts that may not have been proofread yet.

Use the Peer Feedback Form to provide your feedback. The questions on this form will guide you to consider the paper’s strengths, as well as ways it might be made stronger. You will learn about what makes an essay effective through considering these points, and you may even decide that you want to complete the form on your own essay, in addition to the two essays of your classmates.

Step 2 – Revision

Revise your essay, considering the feedback you received from your instructor and classmates and your own ideas on how to make your draft even stronger. Take a look at the Research Paper Checklist before you turn it in to make sure you’ve hit upon all the requirements for this assignment.

Step 3 – Discussion 10B – Reflection

Congratulations on reaching the conclusion of WRT 102! After completing a significant project, like writing three academic essays for this course, it is helpful to review the work you have done to see the connections and solidify what you have learned. It is also helpful to an instructor to see what works and what could use changes based on how the students understand the concepts and assignments in the course.

To complete the final reflection, which you will post in Discussion 10B, please respond to the following prompts:

  1. What was the main idea of each Unit? Summarize the topics of your essays and explain how they connected to the main goal of each Unit.
    1. Unit 1- Close Reading
    2. Unit 2 – Definition Argument
    3. Unit 3 – Research Essay
  2. What tasks or strategies were helpful to you? How did they contribute to your success in each of the essays? Give specific examples.
  3. What could you have done differently to be more successful on the essays?
  4. What tasks or assignments confused you? What questions do you still have about academic writing?
  5. How can you use the skills you learned in this course in your future academic and professional pursuits?
  6. What advice would you give to a student taking this class in the future to help them be successful?
