Chapter 4: Atmospheric Moisture I

Overview

This chapter is the first of two related to atmospheric moisture.  Understanding the technical details about water and humidity is an essential aspect in understanding weather and climate.  Hence, the reason this textbook has two chapters on atmospheric moisture.  The states of water, measuring humidity, cloud formation and atmospheric stability are covered in this chapter.

Once a learner has completed this chapter, they will be able to:

  1. Define the states of water.

  2. Explain how the atmosphere’s water vapor content is measured.

  3. Explain the processes that lead to saturation and condensation.

  4. Describe the concepts associated with lowering the air temperature.

  5. Understand and determine atmospheric stability.
