13 Teaching an Online Course

Teaching a fully online course comes with additional requirements and responsibilities, including the completion of PCC’s TEACH125 course and the adherence to our strict standards for quality.

Most broadly, Instructors should use the LMS to predictably and meaningfully engage with students across all course modalities. While face-to-face and synchronous virtual classes may involve more direct engagement, online and hybrid courses (where 50% or more of activities occur in the LMS) should demonstrate consistent interaction. This includes incorporating strategies for Regular Substantive Interaction (RSI) in online courses as a requirement. Recommended practices include regular communication, timely feedback, interactive discussions, and other activities that enhance student engagement and create a supportive learning environment.

Elliot’s philosophy on Teaching with PDC

One of the purposes of any well-built peer-developed curriculum (PDC), such as a PimaOnline Course Master, is to provide an innovative, goal-oriented curriculum that is developed with the success of our particular students in mind that helps newer faculty find their teaching voice at Pima Community College while inspiring established faculty to be their authentic selves in the (digital) classroom.
