Chapter 12 Introduction

We now move into our study of the many other countries around the world that are broadly and generally referred to here as having non-Western art. In other words, the distinction is being made about art objects that originate from any cultures and societies that are outside and not part of the colonized Western and European world. However, there are exceptions to these broad categories. You’ll see that the artworks from the native peoples of Western countries such as the United States, Canada, Australia, and others are seen differently and are also included in the category of Non-Western.
