Congratulations on your leadership role as Department Head/Director! This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of your department and make a lasting impact on our college community.

To help you navigate this role, we have created this toolkit, organized around the duties outlined in your job description. It includes things you need to know about your responsibilities, from curriculum development to faculty supervision. We have also included a variety of resources, such as job aids, forms, and links to important college policies.

This toolkit is a participatory project and a living document.  At the bottom of each chapter or section there is a space where you can make comments. We encourage you to share your feedback, suggestions, and best practices with us so that we can continue to improve it and make it even more useful for all department heads.  Your contributions will help to ensure that this toolkit remains a valuable resource for years to come.
