4 Course and Section Management (Hybrid, Virtual, and Online)

Key Department Head Duties

  • Reviews and approves syllabi for faculty.
  • Works with the division support for cloning processes.
  • Works with division support and faculty for textbook and material orders.
  • Requests and monitors individual faculty members’ completion of the Course Readiness Checklist prior to each course start  date.
  • Reviews all section materials prior to the start of each term offered to ensure readiness and document completion of this task through institutional processes.
  • Engages in continuous quality review of courses and course masters (if applicable) as they are offered through visitations, providing mentoring/guidance, and connection of faculty/instructors with appropriate college resources.
  • Ensures faculty teaching Hybrid, Virtual, and Online courses completed the TE125: Teach Level certification.
  • Ensures course design and instructors are meeting the RSI (regular substantive interaction) per the US Department of Education for Distance Education.
  • Discuss any student feedback, related to instructional delivery using the section masters, with faculty/instructors to improve their sections.
  • Coordinate the development of new section masters as necessary for courses in the area in collaboration with discipline faculty/instructors and supported by course developers.
  • Engages in the Quality Review process for distance learning courses.
  • Recruits and supports SME (Subject Matter Experts) for course development projects.
  • Recruits, supports, and supervises the work of MCL (Master Course Leads) to maintain the quality of course masters.
  • Ensures the timely submission of NAs and final grades.
